Why we chose it

We brought this into the shop because we were tired of the summer negotiation. Keke refuses the air conditioning entirely — she finds it offensive. Seven needs cooling but can't be shaved without risking her skin. We wanted something that sat in the middle: cool enough to help, soft enough to be inviting, and portable enough to move around the house or take on the road.The three-sided bolster gives them something to lean against without trapping heat. The quilted surface stays put on wooden floors and car seats. And when it needs a clean, it goes in the wash without drama. It's not revolutionary. Keke is not a dramatic cat. She does not complain about the heat — she simply relocates. On the very hottest days, when the flat becomes oppressive and the air conditioning is running (which she resents), she can be found on this mat, positioned carefully in a draught, using it as her personal cooling station. She does not stay all day. She uses it precisely when she needs it, which is perhaps the highest compliment Keke pays anything.

Seven:

Seven's relationship with summer is more desperate. She is a Golden Retriever, which is to say she is essentially wearing a coat she cannot remove. She has learned that this mat is where afternoon naps happen when the sun is high. She settles onto it with the full weight of her optimism, stretches out, and sleeps. It does not solve the heat entirely. But it makes the heat bearable, which for Seven is enough.
