Cigarette Shaped Squeaky Plush Dog Toy Set

£15.89
This is a silly sort of toy — a little fabric cigarette pack with soft, squeaky "cigarettes" inside that you pull out one by one and toss across the room. It looks like a novelty, and it is. But for the right dog, the novelty isn't the point. The point is the ritual: the hand reaching in, the object emerging, the throw, the chase, the squeak.
It sits in the toy basket looking like a joke. And then your dog brings it to you, and the joke becomes the afternoon.

We added this to the shop because we are weak for things that make us laugh, and because Seven is weak for anything that involves her human's hands. The cigarette pack design is daft — the sort of thing that gets a double-take from visitors — but the mechanics of it are genuinely clever. The individual toys are small enough to throw, they squeak when caught, and the box gives the whole thing a sense of occasion. It's not a toy you leave on the floor and walk away from. It's a toy that requires a participant. And we've found that the toys requiring a participant are often the ones that last.

The K&S Test

Keke:

Keke is not a participant in this particular theatre. She has looked at the cigarette pack, looked at the cigarettes, and concluded that they are beneath her dignity. She will, on occasion, rest her head against the box if it happens to be in a sunny spot. This is not play. This is thermal management. The toy remains unplayed-with, and Keke remains unbothered.

Seven:

Seven's enthusiasm for this toy is not constant. It waxes and wanes. She will ignore it for days, and then suddenly it becomes the most important object in the house. What we've learned is that the ignition point is not the toy itself — it's the moment a human hand reaches into the pack and pulls out a cigarette. That action transforms a forgotten object into a prized possession. She will then carry that single cigarette around for an impressive stretch of time, squeaking it, guarding it, eventually losing it under the sofa. The cycle repeats when someone remembers to fish out another one.

From Yan & Nicole

From Yan

"I bought this because it made me laugh, and because I thought Keke might appreciate the absurdity. She did not. She uses the box as a pillow on warm afternoons, which I suppose is still a form of appreciation. It ended up becoming Seven's toy by default, which is fine — the pack lives on the shelf, and the cigarettes migrate around the house one by one."

From Nicole

"At first I thought Seven had lost interest, because she'd stop playing with it for days. Then I noticed — she wasn't bored with the toy, she was waiting for me. She wants the cigarette pulled from the pack, thrown, retrieved. The interaction is the point. What surprised me was realising that she seems to lose interest when the toy sits untouched too long, as if our scent fades from it. It's a reminder that for her, the best part of any toy is the moment it passes through your hands."

✓ Good fit for
  • Dogs who love squeaky plush toys and interactive play
  • Owners who enjoy novelty designs and don't mind being the entertainment
  • Light to moderate chewers who engage with soft toys rather than destroying them
  • Pets who benefit from structured play sessions with their human
✗ May not be for
  • Heavy or aggressive chewers who will dismantle soft toys quickly
  • Cats who prefer independent play (Keke certainly falls into this camp)
  • Owners looking for a solo-play toy — this one needs you to make it work
  • Pets who lose interest in toys without ongoing human interaction
