When the house goes quiet, the nose gets to work.

There are toys your pet plays with. And then there are toys your pet works for. This snuffle mat sits somewhere in between — a soft, layered landscape of fabric strips where you can tuck away treats and let your dog (or your occasionally adventurous cat) do what they do best: follow their nose.
It doesn't demand anything of them. It simply invites them to slow down, sniff around, and discover something good hidden in the folds. In a house that sometimes feels too empty when you're out, it gives them a small job to do.

We added this to the shop because we noticed something: when Keke and Seven are left to their own devices, they handle it very differently. Seven gets restless. Keke simply retreats. We wanted something that could meet them both where they are — a quiet, absorbing activity that doesn't need a human on the other end of a rope.A snuffle mat isn't flashy. It doesn't squeak or bounce. It just lets them be dogs (or, in Keke's case, a cat who occasionally condescends to be a dog). The slow, methodical searching seems to settle them in a way that frantic toys don't. And for pets who worry when the door closes, having a task to focus on can make the difference between a peaceful afternoon and a stressful one.

The K&S Test

Keke:

Keke does not perform for anyone. She has standards. She'll engage with the mat when the mood strikes her — a few sniffs, a paw, a treat retrieved — and then she'll simply walk away, dignity intact. She is, as Yan often says, a cat of very particular opinions. The mat doesn't offend her. It simply has to earn her time, which it occasionally does.

Seven:

Seven's approach is less nuanced. She will not rest until every last crumb has been excavated, inspected, and consumed. There is no treat too well hidden, no corner too tucked away. She treats the mat like a personal challenge issued directly to her honour as a retriever. And once she's cleared it, she'll stand beside it, looking at you with the unmistakable expression of someone ready for round two.

From Yan & Nicole

From Yan

"I bought this mostly with Seven in mind, but I thought Keke might surprise me. She does, occasionally — I'll find her on the mat, doing her careful little investigation, and I'll tuck a few treats in for her. She'll play for a bit, then lose interest, which is exactly how Keke operates. But the moment that really got me was finding her up at midnight, still hunting for a snack she'd missed earlier. For Keke, that's practically enthusiastic."

From Nicole

"Seven is a dog of singular focus, and that focus is food. What surprised me wasn't that she liked the mat — it was how polite she became about it. She doesn't just raid it. She brings me over to it, stands there looking hopeful, and waits. It's become our little routine. I hide the treats, she finds them, and then she resets the whole thing by staring at me until I do it again. It's the most persistent negotiation I've ever been part of."

✓ Good fit for
  • Dogs who need a calming, absorbing activity when left alone
  • Food-motivated pets who enjoy foraging and scent work
  • Owners looking to slow down treat-driven mealtimes
  • Pets prone to mild separation anxiety who benefit from a distraction
  • Cats with the patience and curiosity to engage on their own terms
✗ May not be for
  • Pets who lose interest quickly in non-interactive toys (Keke falls into this camp about half the time — your pet might too)
  • Owners expecting a high-energy, physically demanding toy — this is slow and quiet work
  • Very destructive chewers who may treat the fabric as the snack rather than the container
