Why we chose it

We added this to the shop because Halloween is not just for children, and because we believe in committing to a bit. The centipede design is properly absurd — a long, many-legged creature that makes your cat look enormous and faintly menacing in the most charming way possible. And the construction is thoughtful: Velcro fastenings at four points mean it doesn't slide off the moment your cat moves, and the inner lining doesn't collect fur the way some costumes do.It's not for every day. It's not even for most days. It's for the one evening when you open the door to trick-or-treaters and your cat is there, transformed, looking faintly resigned and entirely memorable.

Keke:

Keke is a cat who has, through no choice of her own, become a centipede. She wears the costume with the expression of someone enduring a temporary indignity for the greater good — which, in this case, is Yan's amusement and the resulting photographs. The fabric is soft enough that she does not protest, and the multiple fastenings keep it in place while she stalks around the room, looking improbably large and faintly mythological. She is, by the end of the evening, still a cat. But for a few hours, she was something else entirely.

Seven:

Seven has not worn this costume. She is a Golden Retriever, and the proportions are not in her favour. She has watched Keke's transformation from a safe distance with what might be confusion or might simply be the patient tolerance she extends to most human behaviour. The costume does not fit her, and she does not mind. She has her own Halloween arrangements.
