Glow in the Dark Dog Ball

£29.99

A football for dogs that you can actually find when the light fades. It sounds slightly absurd until you've watched a Golden Retriever sprint across a field at dusk with one clamped in her jaws, utterly convinced she's won something important. This is the toy Seven has known since she was small enough to wobble after it. She still wobbles after it now, just with more momentum — and the glow helps us both keep track.

We brought this into the shop because we wanted something that could genuinely survive being a dog's football and still be visible when the evenings draw in. It takes a proper kicking, holds its shape, and goes satisfyingly far when you boot it across grass. The glow-in-the-dark finish means you don't have to cut play short the moment the sun dips — Seven certainly doesn't want to. Small dogs can nudge it. Large dogs can grab it and run. And if your dog is anything like ours, they'll do the running part with far more enthusiasm than the kicking part.

The K&S Test

Keke:

Keke regards football with the same interest she regards most dog activities: polite disinterest. No ball was purchased on her behalf.

Seven:

Seven has been "playing football" since she was a puppy. She has never once kicked it. She has, however, perfected the art of charging at it, seizing it mid-roll, and galloping away with a look of absolute triumph. Her technique is unconventional. Her commitment is not.

From Yan & Nicole

From Yan

"I didn't get one for Keke — she's not the football type, and I'm not in the habit of buying toys for cats who'd rather watch from the windowsill. But for Seven, this has been one of the few toys that actually lasted beyond the novelty phase. The glow is a nice touch for autumn evenings. That's rare in our house."

From Nicole

"We take this to the big field and I kick it as far as I can, and Seven tears after it every single time — ears back, legs everywhere, completely focused. She grabs it and brings it straight back, though she has absolutely no idea how to kick. She just wants to be the one holding it. The moment you ask, she gives it up happily. Then she stands there waiting for you to do it again. And again. It's been her favourite for years now, which I find rather moving, honestly. The glow means we can keep going even when the light starts to go."
